In short:
U.S. agricultural exports to China fell 54% in January alone, as steep tariffs squeezed margins for Chinese processors—some facing levies as high as 145%—and Beijing retaliated with tariffs of up to 125% on American products.
Trump's trade war has opened new opportunities for Brazil in the global market, boosting its agribusiness sector while dealing a blow to U.S. farmers, according to a Financial Times commodities analysis published on April 13.
“This is a blessing for farmers in Brazil and Argentina and will significantly support the sector,” the British outlet reported, noting that Brazilian exports of some key agricultural goods to China rose by roughly one-third in the first quarter of 2025.
