In Short:
With a total of 694,607 bags purchased in January, Germany has become the world's largest buyer of Brazilian coffee, according to data provided by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council. This figure represents a 57.4% increase compared to the same period last year and accounts for 17.6% of Brazilian exports, underscoring the significance of this product in the South American country's economy.
Germans have been experiencing a growing coffee consumption trend and have always been a key destination for Brazilian exports. Furthermore, conflicts in the Middle East and logistical issues have affected exports to the United States, which were previously the largest buyers. Nonetheless, there was also an increase in purchases to 682,952 bags in January, a 31.3% rise compared to the previous year, driven by the seasonal increase in coffee consumption during the winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
China also continues to consume more Brazilian coffee, maintaining its sixth position in the global ranking. In January of this year, the country imported 168,761 bags, a 153.9% increase compared to the same period last year. Beyond the volume of purchases, Chinese consumers are increasingly interested in quality coffee, prompting the exporting sector to intensify its efforts to promote Brazilian coffees to this audience.
